in a rare Christmas Eve session, the United States Senate approved its version of the most sweeping reform of the nation’s health care system since the introduction of Medicare in 1965 in a 60-39 party-line vote.
Shortly after 7am this morning, the Senate passed their version of health care reform. The aye votes included Senator Robert Byrd, the 92 year old Democrat from West Virginia.
President Barack Obama and his fellow Democrats made health care reform a top legislative priority.
US President Barack Obama gives his reaction to the vote earlier on the final Senate version of a historic health-care reform bill.
The legislation aims to cover 31 million uninsured Americans and could lead to the biggest change in US health-care in decades.
