Jyoti Basu, Veteran politician and 95 year old Marxist leader is dead. The former chief minister of Bengal was hospitalized with pneumonia and then put on a ventilator following acute breathing problems.
Jyoti Basu is a politician belonging to the Communist Party of India (Marxist) from West Bengal, India. He served as the Chief Minister of Bengal from 1977 to 2000, was India’s longest-serving Chief Minister. He was a member of the CPI(M) Politburo from the time of the party’s founding in 1964 until 2008.
