A LearJet cargo plane has crashed near Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling, Illinois, outside of Chicago, and just north of O’Hare International Airport. According to the Chicago Tribune, both the pilot and co-pilot were killed, but their names have not been released as of this writing.

The lear jet reportedly went down in a river. According to Laura Witlox, airport spokesperson, the Royal Air freight jet went down at about 2 PM today. It is unknown at this time how many people were on the plane and if any were injured. The lear jet was on the way to Atlanta from Michigan with a stop at Chicago Executive Airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration said it was unclear what caused the crash to crash into a forest, noting that the jet had just been cleared for visual approach to the airport,

River Road was closed from Euclid Avenue to Kensington Road during the recovery efforts. The Cook County Sheriff’s Police and Glenview Fire Dept. are heading up the emergency efforts from a command post set up in the forest preserve grove.
