US Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke was named Time magazine’s “Person of the Year” for 2009 on Wednesday.
This morning on the Today show, Time Managing Editor Rick Stengel announced the Time Man of the Year 2009. The Time Person of the Year for 2009 is Ben Bernanke.
Ben Shalom Bernanke born December 13, 1953) is an American economist, and the current Chairman of the United States Federal Reserve. Mr. Bernanke, a Republican who was appointed by President George W. Bush in October 2005 and who had briefly served as chairman of Mr. Bush’s Council of Economic Advisers. Bernanke succeeded Alan Greenspan on February 1, 2006. He was nominated for a second term by President Barack Obama in 2009 as the Chairman of the Federal Reserve.

Last year’s “Person of the Year” was then-US president-elect Barack Obama. The 2007 winner was Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
